Nigeria, Tunisia set to strengthen tourism, economic ties

Nigeria and Tunisia are set to strengthen bilateral relations in culture, tourism, and economic cooperation, following a high-level meeting between both countries’ representatives in Abuja on Monday.

The Tunisian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Moshen Antit, made this known during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa.

Ambassador Antit expressed Tunisia’s interest in collaborating with Nigeria through cultural exchanges and medical tourism. He highlighted Tunisia’s rich historical heritage and architectural attractions, alongside its advanced healthcare infrastructure, as key areas for mutual benefit.

“Tunisia has heavily invested in its healthcare sector, making it a hub for medical tourism in Africa. We believe our services could serve Nigerians and other Africans seeking quality medical care,” the Ambassador said.

He also extended an invitation to Nigeria to participate in the upcoming International Conference on Financing, Investment, and Trade in Africa (FITA), scheduled for May 6–7, 2025, in Tunisia. The event is expected to host over 2,000 participants from 60 countries, creating opportunities for investment dialogue and continental partnerships.

“We are eager to work with Nigeria to explore avenues for cultural exchange and strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation,” he added.

Responding, Minister Musawa welcomed the initiative and expressed Nigeria’s readiness to pursue collaboration under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, which prioritizes the creative economy as a tool for sustainable development.

“This is an opportunity to build stronger continental ties. We are excited about the possibilities this partnership offers and look forward to formalizing our collaboration in the near future,” she stated.
