Nigerian Army, key to maintaining peace, stability in West Africa – Minister

By Innocent Raphael

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has said that the Armed Forces of Nigeria play a pivotal role in maintaining peace, stability, and social cohesion both within its borders and the whole of West Africa as well.

The Minister said this during a recent visit by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Abuja.

He further asserted that given President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda foreign policy doctrine anchored on the strategic pillars of Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora (4 Ds), an imperative partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) was inevitable.

While commending the Foreign Affairs Minister for instituting practical policy and directives for the nation since assuming office, the CDS pledged the readiness of the AFN to partner with the Ministry in discharging its mandate, as loyal emissaries of Nigeria.

General Musa further seized the opportunity to reiterate AFN’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Nigeria, the Lake Chad region, and the entire West African sub-region as a whole.
