NNPCL, SEEPCO subsidiaries begin oil production at OML 13 in Nigeria

The flagship upstream subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), alongside Natural Oilfield Services Ltd. (NOSL), a subsidiary of Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Ltd. (SEEPCO), have announced the successful initiation of oil production at Oil Mining Lease (OML) 13 located in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

The commencement of oil production was disclosed to the public in a statement released on Monday, as confirmed by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye.

According to the statement, production began on May 6, 2024, with an initial output of 6,000 barrels of oil. It is projected to reach a daily production rate of 40,000 barrels by May 27, 2024.

This milestone marks a significant achievement in the partnership between NNPC E&P Ltd. and NOSL, emphasizing their commitment to fostering growth and development in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

It also symbolizes a new chapter of economic empowerment and developmental prospects for the communities hosting the project.

The statement also asserted that the commencement of oil production from OML 13 holds strategic importance for Nigeria, as it contributes to the country’s efforts to augment its oil production capacity, essential for meeting domestic energy demands and driving economic advancement.

It added that, the NNPC E&P Ltd. and NOSL partnership emphasizes a commitment to safe, environmentally responsible operations, while also striving to deliver tangible benefits to the local communities.
