North Central Governors seek creation of Development Commission

Governors from the North Central geopolitical zone have called for the creation of the North Central Development Commission ( NCDC) to tackle issues affecting the region.

The governors made the call on Saturday at the North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) zonal meeting in Nasarawa.

Some of the issues raised by the governors were, infrastructural deficits, banditry, and other security challenges facing the region.

The governors lauded President Bola Tinubu for his economic reforms and how he had been able to handle national issues.

They called for the dredging of the River Niger, resuscitation of the Ajaokuta Steel Mill in Lokoja, respect for the rights of the APC lawmakers in Plateau under the law, and more juicy appointments for party loyalists from the region.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara); Engr. Sule Abdullahi (Nasarawa); Ahmed Usman Ododo (Kogi); Hyacinth Alia (Benue) and the Nigeri State governor, Mohammed Bago was represented.

Others include; the APC National Chairman, Sen. Abdullahi Ganduje, APC National Secretary, Sen. Bashiru Ajigbola, Senators, House of Representatives members, Ministers, House of Assembly members and APC executives from the North Central geopolitical zone.

Meanwhile, Akume commended the initiative to bring APC leaders together for a common agenda of growth, saying Tinubu would do more to reward their loyalty.

He said the region would enjoy many infrastructural projects, saying the President is already addressing some lopsidedness observed in recent appointments.

He said massive works will begin soon on some road projects, including Makurdi Enugu, Akwanga to Jos, Lokoja to South West, some road projects within Kwara axis, among others.

Governor Abdulrazaq, who is the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and APC Coordinating Governor for North Central, said the meeting was called to thank APC stakeholders for their support and also to foster unity among them.

Abdulrazaq said two main committees will arise from the meeting to address reconciliation, projects and policy formulation towards uniting the party and government policies.

In his remarks, Governor Sule called for more unity and collaboration among leaders for the purpose of achieving collective goals of development, peace, and security in the region.

Other governors joined their colleagues to call for more federal projects in the region.
