NSC DG Olopade applauds Ogun’s readiness for 2024 National Sports Festival

The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has expressed satisfaction with Ogun State’s level of preparedness to host the 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, scheduled to hold from May 16 to 30, 2025.
Olopade, who also serves as Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), gave the commendation during an inspection tour of facilities alongside members of both the Local and Main Organising Committees. The tour covered key venues earmarked for the games across the state.
He noted that one of the most significant outcomes of the inspection was the decision, in collaboration with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), to host all throwing events at the MKO Abiola Stadium due to its suitable Astroturf. “That for me is the most gratifying thing about this inspection,” Olopade said.

He lauded Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for the scale and quality of renovations ongoing at the stadium, particularly improvements in security infrastructure. “Every Public Address System is equipped with a camera, and the 360-degree coverage with world-class cameras ensures real-time surveillance,” he added.
The inspection team also visited the Abeokuta Golf Course, where Olopade pledged the Commission’s support in providing additional equipment that would serve as long-term legacies. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that local communities, especially underprivileged children around the area, benefit from the Games.

With most facilities nearing completion, the Gateway Games 2024 is shaping up to be one of the most well-organized editions in the festival’s history. Organizers say the venues are already wearing a new look in anticipation of the thousands of athletes and officials expected to participate.
The inspection concluded with a joint technical meeting involving Federation Secretaries, state Directors of Sports, and members of both organizing committees to finalize arrangements and ensure all logistics are in place for a successful festival.
The visit also coincided with the official unveiling of the festival’s logo, theme song, and mascot. The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a premium sporting event that will leave lasting impressions on both athletes and spectators.
