NSCDC deploys 500 personnel for Alaafin’s coronation

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, says it will deploy 500 personnel to ensure security at the coronation of the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, which is scheduled to take place in Oyo town on Saturday.
A statement released by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Oyo State, Samuel Opebiyi, said the officers will be strategically stationed at the coronation venue, key roads, and other critical areas within Oyo town.
The main coronation ceremony will take place at Olivet Baptist Height, while 10 other venues have been set aside by the Local Organising Committee to host attendees.
The statement read: “Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Oyo State Command, under the leadership of Commandant Augustine Padonu, has put in place a comprehensive security plan to ensure a smooth and secure coronation ceremony for His Imperial Majesty, Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I.
“Given the significance of this historic event and the large number of attendees expected, NSCDC will be deploying a contingent of about 500 highly trained personnel to provide security, ensure crowd control, and safeguard critical infrastructure throughout the ceremony. Our officers will be strategically stationed at key locations, including the coronation venue, major roads, and other critical areas in Oyo Town, to prevent any breach of security.”
The NSCDC spokesperson also emphasised the collaboration with other security agencies to prevent any security breaches before, during, and after the event.
“Additionally, NSCDC is an integral part of the committee set up to ensure the successful conduct of the coronation, particularly in terms of security. We are working in close collaboration with other security agencies to maintain law and order before, during, and after the event. These experienced officers will monitor activities and respond promptly to any security concerns.
“NSCDC remains committed to its mandate of protecting lives and property, and we assure residents and guests that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their safety throughout the coronation festivities. We also urge members of the public to cooperate with security operatives and adhere to all guidelines for a successful and peaceful event,” it stated.
Dignitaries expected to attend the coronation include former Canadian Prime Minister, over 200 Canada based Oyo indigenes. Other notable guests include first-class traditional rulers such as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo; Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III; and Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, among others.
