NVC aims to groom future leaders with strong values – NOA DG

The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has reiterated the agency’s commitment to grooming future Nigerian leaders through value-based education and civic engagement, as part of the National Values Charter (NVC).

Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Intercontinental Leadership Initiative (ILI) at the NOA headquarters, Issa-Onilu said the NVC is designed to instill essential leadership values in young Nigerians, ensuring they are well-equipped for responsible roles in society.

The visit was centered on proposing a partnership between NOA and ILI through the “Future Leadership Club”—an initiative targeted at nurturing emerging leaders. The NOA DG commended the group for investing their time, energy, and resources into leadership development, and assured them of the agency’s full support.

He also drew connections between the ILI initiative and NOA’s ongoing National Identity Project, which he said gave birth to the National Values Charter. According to him, the NVC outlines the “7 for 7” framework—comprising The Nigeria Promise, which defines seven core responsibilities of leaders, and The Citizens’ Code, which lays out seven civic duties of every Nigerian.

Prince Stafford J. Bisong, the ILI team lead, expressed gratitude to the Director-General, praising the NOA’s efforts and expressing optimism about the nation’s future. He reaffirmed ILI’s readiness to collaborate closely with the agency.

In a gesture to solidify the new partnership, Prince Bisong named Mallam Issa-Onilu the Patron Chairman of the Future Leadership Club—a role the NOA boss accepted with appreciation.
