Ogun local council denies unjust levies at Mowe market

Obafemi Owode Local Government in Ogun State, has said there was never unjust levies at Mower Market.

A statement issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the Local Government and Chairman, IGR Committee, Kayode Dipeolu, said “The attention of Obafemi Owode Local Government has been drawn to a circulating news of unjust levies at Mowe market in one of the online news publications, it is on the above message that the Internally Generated Revenue drive of Obafemi Owode Local Government wishes to debunk any form of unjust levy, extortion or otherwise has been reported and circulated through an online medium that at no time the local government authority engaged any illegal collection of levies or rates either within or outside the market without proper identification or due process as government agents”.

He said “He could recall a warning sent out to the public on the confirmation of any individual that may be parading his or her self as revenue collector of Obafemi Owode Local Government and it is also worthy to note that Amb. Ogunsola Adesina Lanre, FCPA led administration will not support any form of hardship inflicted policy on his people or chilled any unjust levies within the council area.

“Have been invited to a crucial meeting at the council secretariat with Iyaloja, Babaloja, Chiefs, Community Leaders and other Stakeholders towards unravelling those behind the alleged act and to provide immediate solutions to forestall reoccurrence

“We therefore enjoin all market men and women to continue with their daily businesses on hinderance and not to seize this as an opportunity to avoid their responsibility to Government in order to continue to enjoy the deserved dividends of democracy”.
