Ogun Police beef up security at Sagamu Interchange, disrupt illegal activities

The Ogun State Police Command has intensified security measures at the four intersections of the Sagamu Interchange to safeguard residents and commuters following recent security concerns in the area.

This development was contained in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Omolola Odutola, who noted that the move follows reports circulating on social media about an alleged incident on March 31, 2025. While no formal report was made at any police station, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered reinforced security at the interchange.

The revealed that security personnel from the Quick Intervention Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 and 16 have been strategically deployed at key locations, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along the inward and outward routes of the four intersections.

It further disclosed that during a two-hour drone surveillance exercise led by CP Ogunlowo, several illegal shanties and unauthorized revenue collection points operated by touts were discovered.

“In response, the Commissioner has ordered the immediate disbandment of these activities and the removal of unauthorized structures starting April 3, 2025. Also, all commercial activities under the bridge must cease immediately,” it read.

The police also revealed it has engaged transport union members to redirect commercial traffic to well-lit and secure areas. It advised commuters to plan their travels within daylight hours or early evenings to minimize risks.

“With the heightened security presence and collaboration between security agencies and the Ogun State Government, the police command remains resolute in its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state,” the police affirmed.
