Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has announced that the late Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former governor of the state who passed away on April 6, will be honoured with a state burial in recognition of his immense contributions to Oyo State and Nigeria.
Governor Makinde made this known on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at their residence in the Molete area of Ibadan.
He revealed that the state government, in collaboration with the Olunloyo family, had commenced arrangements for a befitting state funeral that would reflect the legacy and stature of the late statesman.
The governor described the late Olunloyo as a man whose contributions to governance, mathematics, and public service spanned decades and served as an inspiration to many.
“He was not just a former governor but a brilliant mind, a respected leader, and a symbol of integrity and excellence,” Makinde stated.
He was received by Mrs. Aderonke Olunloyo, the widow of the deceased.
Born in 1935, Pa Olunloyo was one of Nigeria’s earliest PhD holders in Mathematics. He served as governor of the old Oyo State for three months in 1983 under the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN).
