Ondo assembly confirms Adelami as deputy governor

The Ondo State House of Assembly has confirmed the nomination of Dr Olayide Owolabi Adelami as the new Deputy Governor of Ondo State.

The confirmation took place at a plenary session chaired by the Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji on Thursday.

This followed the presentation and adoption of a report by the house selection committee headed by the speaker.

The committee had earlier screened the nominees at the assembly complex.

The letter from the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, requesting the house to consider the nominees for the vacant post of a Deputy Governor, was read by the House Clerk, Jaiyeola Benjamin.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Prince Abayomi Akinruntan, who submitted the report, recommended the confirmation of the nominees, saying that they had undergone proper screening.

Akinruntan said the nominee answered all the questions posed by the Committee in a very clear and articulate manner, adding that he had a good grasp of the position, and that he had the necessary academic qualifications, physical, mental and emotional fitness to perform the task.

The report also stated that he had the relevant experience, charisma and exposure to function effectively.

The motion for the adoption of the report and the confirmation of the nominees was moved by the House Majority leader, Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, and seconded by Felix Afe, representing Akoko North West 2.

The Speaker, Oladiji, who presided over the confirmation, congratulated the Deputy Governor-elect, and urged him to do his best. He also assured the executive of the house support to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people.

In his response, Adelami thanked Governor Aiyedatiwa for nominating him, and vowed not to let him down or betray his trust.

He also thanked the lawmakers for their efforts during the screening and confirmation, and said that fostering harmony between the arms of government would be his priority.
