By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin

The Oro community in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State will on Saturday, hold a N500million Development Fund launching.

The community in a statement by the Central Planning Committee (CPC) Chairman, Col. Ajibade Olabanji (Rtd) on Tuesday, said the event is not just for merry making but an opportunity to showcase the unity of purpose of Oro in its quest for development and progress.

Ajibade said the event, which was earlier scheduled to hold in 2022 was postponed due to socio-political factors and security challenges.

According to him, the projected fund is to be committed to some developmental projects such as repair of internal roads,

solar energy lighting installation on major roads in the town, borehole construction and the renovation and remodeling of the Oro Community Centre.

“With the determined drive of the community and constant focus, I have positive inclination towards the projects’ implementation within good delivery time and period.

“We shall encourage ceaseless projects monitoring, down to earth evaluation and other justifiable processes before funds are released,” he added.

Speaking on the 18 years interval between the last Oro Day celebration and this year’s event, Ajibade said many factors were responsible, notably paucity of funds occasioned by national economic setback.

He added that the socio – political environment was equally not impressive with persistent banditry, abductions and kidnapping experienced by the citizenry.

The CPC chairman appreciated God, members of the Central Planning Committee and the people of Oro as most if not all the obstacles encountered have been surmounted.

“Our vision and mission are on course for accomplishment. We are coasting home for attainment of set goals and objectives,” he said.

Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq will be the Guest of Honour while Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed is the Chief Host.

Guests are to be entertained by Alhaji Abass Akande (Obesere) and two prominent sons of the community; Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma and Tony Tetuila.

Other activities lined up for the Oro Day celebration are; novelty match, Fanty carnival, Jummat and Church service.
