Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it will not participate in the planned local government election slated for October 15.

Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Tuesday, caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state. Dr. Akindele Adekunle said PDP will never be part of any illegality by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).

Adekunle who noted that the party will challenge the planned election in court, maintained that the law will take its course if OSSIEC go ahead to conduct the election.

His words: “We are already challenging the illegality in court so we can’t be part of any illegality. Never!

“We are law abiding and we have been enlightening even the chairman himself. If they are adamant and they still go ahead to conduct the election, of course the law will take its course. We will not hesitate to sanction whoever has decided to go against the law.

“That’s why we’re doing everything within our powers to engage them, educate them and to let them see the consequences off their actions so that they will not plunge the state into an avoidable crisis.”

On the allegation of threat message received by the OSSIEC chairman, Adekunle said the party will not do such thing since the matter had been taking to court.

The PDP chairman said the OSSIEC chairman is only afraid of his shadow.

“We don’t have to send any text message to anybody because we’re already in power and we’re very comfortable. I think it’s a figment of his own imagination. Maybe he’s afraid of his shadows. We don’t do such and for the fact that we’ve taken it to court to challenge their illegalities, we can’t threaten anybody,” he added.

He described the Governor Gboyega Oyetola-led government as illegality personified.

“From what we’ve seen and heard, there are a lot of illegalities that they have perpetrated and we’re compiling it and when it is made known to the public, appropriate actions will be taken to address that,” he noted.
