Osun Police arrest 19 suspected armed robbers, car thieves, others

Osun State Police Command on Monday disclosed that it has arrested 19 suspects over alleged armed robbery, conspiracy, theft, kidnapping, and being members of the unlawful confraternity.

The suspects arrested include:  Seyi Ojo, male, 33 years old; Kamorudeen Quadri, male, 32 years old; Ogbemudia Sunday, male, 48 years old; Fatai Toheeb, male, 22 years old; David Adebayo, male, 43 years old; David Aderemi, male, 30 years old; Olalekan Musiliu, male, 35 years old; and Ayodele Kehinde, male, 39 years old, Ayomide David Popoola, male, 32 years old, Adejumo Boluwatife, male, 20 years old.

Others are: Adisa Lateef, male, 23 years old, Gbolahan Oladipupo, male, 25 years old, Adeagbo Musibau, male, 20 years old, Temitope Oke, male, 33 years old, Wasiu Hammed, male, 19 years old, Olamilekan Yusuf, male, 21 years old, Julius Wuraola, female, 28 years old, Dada Taiwi, male, 26 years old (hospitalised), Olalekan Kazeem, male, 21 years old.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Hope Okafor, while briefing newsmen in Osogbo, disclosed that six out of the suspects were arrested for conspiracy and armed robbery and that they also kidnapped one of their victims and alter stolen phones’ IMEIs to evade police tracking.

She said Ojo and Quadri were part of a gang that robbed a family at Ijebu Jesa on Nov. 31, 2023 and that after they were arrested, investigation reveals that they also took part in robbing and kidnapping one Olomolatan Sarah (f) of Araromi street Erin-Ijesa on Dec. 7, 2023.

The police boss said, investigation further revealed that Ogbemudia, received two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and Highlander , from the suspects, while the duo of David Adebayo, and David Aderemi, helped the suspects to change the IMEI of stolen phones.

She said Toheeb was arrested after the confession of both Seyi Ojo and Kamorudeen Quadri of being part of the gang that robbed and kidnapped Olomolatan Sarah.

She said one Ayodele who was arrested on November 31, 2023 at yidi Area, Ilesa Osun, for specialising in snatching motorcycles at gun point, equally implicated Seyi Ojo as one of his gang member.

“He confessed to the act that himself, Seyi Ojo and two others who are currently at large, were the one terrorizing the area and that they have snatched four motorcycles which they sold to one Olalekan Musiliu, who resides in Ibadan (who has also been arrested).” she said

Okafor also said four suspects were arrested for being members of Eiye Confraternity while another suspected was arrested while stealing wiring cables of an uncompleted/ongoing building construction in Osogbo.

She said a robbery suspect, who was shot while his gang attempted to rob Steel Rolling Company, Osogbo, was also arrested with his assistance, who was looking for medical personel to treat his gun shot wound.

She said on 7th February, 2024, ,  at about 1:00a.m, a team of Police Anti-kidnapping operatives intercepted a four man gang of suspected car theft syndicate along Osunjela Ilesha road while they were enroute to Kabba, Kogi State, to sell the stolen cars.

She said preliminary interrogation revealed that the suspects operated under the guise of being gear box mechanics and subsequently stealing their unsuspecting customers’ cars.

She said four cars were recovered from them and thereafter called on residents who have belongings or property among those recovered from the suspects to come to the command, with evidence, to claim them.

Okafor added that all the suspects will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
