Osun Police arrest 8-member motorcycle theft syndicate

The Osun State Police Command has successfully apprehended eight suspected members of a notorious syndicate responsible for stealing motorcycles across the state.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the breakthrough came after operatives attached to the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit arrested a key member of the gang, 27-year-old Olowookere Ojo Mojeed, on April 11, 2025. Mojeed was apprehended at the Ogo-Oluwa area in Osogbo, where he was found in possession of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with registration number EDT 155 QF. The motorcycle had been stolen from its owner while parked.

Further investigation revealed additional stolen motorcycles, including a TVS model, and Mojeed confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in stealing motorcycles from various locations across the state.

In a series of coordinated arrests, the police later apprehended 38-year-old Hammed Jelili at his hideout in Shasha, Osogbo, where six spare motorcycle keys, believed to be used in their theft operations, were recovered.

Ojelabi further disclosed that the investigation led the operatives to Brewery area in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the receiver of the stolen motorcycles, 64-year-old Oguntade Segun, was arrested. Segun admitted to purchasing four different motorcycles from the syndicate at prices ranging from N250,000 to N300,000 each. Another suspect, 30-year-old Arobadi Michael, was also arrested for allegedly delivering the stolen motorcycles to Segun.

The police have stated that the suspects will be charged to court after the completion of the ongoing investigation.

The Osun State Police Command has called on individuals whose motorcycles have been stolen to visit the Commissioner of Police’s Monitoring Unit at the State Headquarters in Osogbo for identification and possible recovery of their vehicles.
