Pandemonium in Osun as political thugs attempt takeover of motor parks

…Adeleke warns against violence

Pandemonium broke out in Osogbo, Osun State capital on Monday, less than 24 hours after the inauguration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as political thugs attempted to take over of motor parks.

The crisis started on Sunday as two policemen were allegedly injured when some of the hoodlums attacked three motor parks in an attempt to take them over.

On Monday, the thugs allegedly regrouped and armed themselves with dangerous weapons like gun, machetes, stick, broken bottles moved to the parks to attack park managers.

There were gunshots in some part of Osogbo like Egbatedo, Oke-Fia, Old-Garage, Oluode, Ifelodun as residents scamper for safety.

Banks and shops in the areas were shut as motorists were driving with fear.

Governor Ademola Adeleke has, however, warned against violence among transport workers’ unions in the state.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, on Monday, the governor directed security agencies to maintain the status quo across the motor parks.

He also directed the security agencies to maintain law and order.

Adeleke has however called on all union leaders and their supporters to remain calm and bring any grievances to the state government for resolution.
