PCNGI rolls out key projects ahead of Democracy Day

The Presidential CNG Initiative (PCNGI) has announced a series of milestone events leading up to Democracy Day on May 29.

In a statement on Friday, the PCNGI disclosed that the initiative is part of efforts to expand affordable transportation and boost domestic gas utilization for industrialization.

The initiative, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to the ongoing CNG Revolution, will focus on infrastructure development, transportation upgrades, and workforce training.

Key Milestones in the PCNGI Rollout:

  • April 4, 2025 – Signing ceremony for the Arete Mini-LNG Project, a $6 million investment to expand CNG availability in northern Nigeria.
  • April 7, 2025 – Presidential briefing on the progress of the PCNG Initiative.
  • April 11, 2025 – Groundbreaking agreement between PCNGI and public sector unions to provide CNG vehicle conversions for 200,000 public sector employees.
  • April 15, 2025 – Phase 1 rollout of the Tricycle Deployment Program, in collaboration with NACTOMORAS and the Federal Ministry of Youth.
  • April 25 – May 29, 2025 – Commissioning of key CNG refueling stations in Enugu, FCT, Lokoja, Port Harcourt, Ado Ekiti, and Abia to expand the CNG footprint nationwide and improve transport connectivity in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Kano.
  • Week of May 5, 2025 – Handover of CNG-powered buses and launch of conversion programs for the Nigerian Army.
  • Week of May 19, 2025 – Launch of a “Train the Trainer” program for security agencies to train technicians from the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police on CNG conversion.
  • May 2025 – Operationalization of the Autogas Framework, enabling discounted gas supply for the auto-CNG sector in partnership with GACN and NGML.
  • May 29, 2025 – Launch of Basic Awareness Training for auto technicians and artisans.
  • May 29 – June 12, 2025 – Phase 1 launch of the University CNG Infrastructure Program in collaboration with MDGIF and the Federal Ministry of Education.

The PCNGI reiterated its aim to accelerate the transition to CNG-powered transportation, reduce fuel costs, and enhance environmental sustainability.
