PDP unseats Matawalle as Dauda Lawal wins Zamfara governorship election

Governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal has been declared winner of Saturday’s election in the state, defeating incumbent Bello Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The returning officer for the election, Kassimu Shehu, declared Lawal the winner “having satisfied the requirement of the law.”.

Lawal polled 377,726 votes while Matawalle secured 311,976 votes.

Mattawale who was elected on the platform of the PDP in 2019 had defected to the APC in June 2021.
