The Borno State Police Command has revealed that eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the death of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamar, a lecturer from the Department of Physical Health Education at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID).

Spokesman for the command, ASP Daso Kenneth, disclosed to Journalists that the suspects were arrested following a report filed by the Chief Security Officer of the university.

According to Kenneth, the UNIMAID CSO reported to police around 6:30am that a body was found in the office, and identified as Dr. Abdulkadir Kamal.

He added that men of the force were dispatched immediately to the scene of the crime, and evacuated the deceased to a hospital for autopsy.

“Although we arrested eight suspects who are in our custody, investigations are ongoing to unravel those behind the act,” Kenneth said.

The ASP further enjoined residents within and outside the university community to remain calm as he assured police would do everything possible to identify the culprits.

In his statement, UNIMAID’s spokesman, Prof. Danjuma Gambo, stated that Dr Abdulkadir was murdered in his office on Sunday evening, while attending to some pending tasks.

When questioned about the potential link between his homicide and his position as the examination officer, the university spokesperson stressed that full authority has been granted to law enforcement and security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation and furnish a detailed report regarding the incident and its underlying motives.

A lecturer in the faculty who pleaded anonymity disclosed that the deceased had taken advantage of the Easter holiday to clear up some work on his desk when the assailants struck..

“He was brutally murdered with knife and hammer, leaving him in the pool of his blood. They also escaped with his car and some other valuables.

“However, many people are attributing the murder to the position he held as the faculty examination officer,” he stated.
