Police intensify efforts to combat kidnapping, criminal activities

In response to the escalating threat of kidnapping in various regions of the country, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a concerted effort to combat the menace and related criminal activities.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, stated this in meeting on Wednesday, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He directed the force to mobilize its resources to address the persistent challenge of kidnapping, which has continued to endanger the lives and security of Nigerian citizens.

The IGP also directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) and the broader intelligence community to ramp up their operations and intelligence gathering capabilities.

The meeting which hosted delegates from the US Treasury Department and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) also covered discussions about combating corruption, counterterrorism financing, and money laundering as crucial elements in the fight against organized crime.

During the meeting, both parties emphasized the indispensable role of financial intelligence in combating various forms of illicit activities, as they reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts aimed at safeguarding national security and promoting integrity in financial systems.

Egbetokun also commended the efforts of intelligence operatives in addressing current security challenges and assured the public that the police force will spare no effort in sustaining the fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities.

He further reiterated the resolve of the police to ensure that perpetrators of these crimes face justice, asserting that directive underscores the determination of the Police to confront the threat of kidnapping head-on and restore peace and stability to the nation.
