The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has announced a forthcoming visit of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan, to Nigeria in May 2024.

The disclosure was made via a press statement by the DHQ on Sunday, signed by Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau.

According to the statement, the royal couple’s visit aims to promote the Invictus Games, an international multi-sport event founded by Prince Harry to support wounded, injured, and sick service personnel on their path to recovery.

Revealing that Prince Harry and Meghan will engage with Nigerian service members and participate in various cultural activities during their stay, the statement stated that Nigeria, which achieved success at the last Invictus Games, sees the royal visit as an opportunity to strengthen its position in the competition and explore the possibility of hosting the event in the future.

The DHQ further disclosed that the Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru, who attended last year’s Invictus Games in Germany, has expressed Nigeria’s readiness to host the games if granted the opportunity in the near future.
