Redeemer’s University graduates 635 students, 7 PhDs

Redeemer’s University, Ede, in Osun State, has disclosed that 635 undergraduates will be graduating from the institution at its 14th convocation.

Addressing a pre-convocation press briefing on Thursday, Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Anthony Akinlo, stated that 48 out of the graduates bagged First Class honours constituting 7.6%, while 223 students are in the second class upper division, which represent 35.1%.

He said 251 students came out with second class lower division, which is 39.5% and 66 students with third class representing 10.4%.

“The nursing department will be graduating 21 students, while diploma had 12 students with upper credit, which is 1.7%. 13 students with lower credit which is. 2.0% and only one student with merit, which is 0.2 per cent,” Akinlo said.

The VC said the university will be producing seven holders of PhD, adding that students from the Faculty of Law will be graduating alongside others from the institution for the first time.

Akinlo, while listing some of the notable achievements made in the last one year said that the university’s African Center of Excellence for the Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) made its mark in combating the challenges posed by infectious diseases and other public health related matter.

“Through the effort of the Centre, we are able to curtail Ebola and Covid-19 in Nigeria. We conducted test for virtually all the states in the western part of Nigeria,” he added.

The VC said with some of the landmarks, the Centre was declared winner of the 2021 Nigerian Academy of Science Gold Medal Price Award for her contribution to scientific knowledge of the infectious diseases in Nigeria and the high-impact transnational effect of her research and capacity building across the African continent.

He charged the graduating students not to contaminate themselves with things that would take away their value.
