Rivers: Abe ends rift with Wike, expresses optimism in APC’s future

Former Governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in the 2023 elections, Senator Magnus Abe, has expressed optimism about the prospects of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State benefiting from a process of peaceful reunification and reintegration.
In a recent statement, the former senator also declared that he had made peace with former Rivers state Governor and incumbent Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wke, while highlighting his commitment to ending internal rifts within the party.
Emphasizing his reconciliation with the FCT Minister, he noted that their joint attendance at Chief Tony Okocha’s recent thanksgiving event symbolized his dedication to fostering unity within the party.
Acknowledging that past disagreements are now resolved, Abe affirmed his belief that peace within the party is attainable, though it may take some time.
He stressed the importance of unity, urging all party members to align with this vision for the greater good.
Abe concluded by reaffirming his allegiance to the APC and called for collective efforts towards building a stronger party.
He hinted at refraining from further commentary on internal matters, emphasizing a focus on economic issues for the time being.
Recall that the FCT Minister and the former governorship candidate had, over the years, endured a troubled relationship due to their political differences.
Even though both men were not in the same party at the time, the rift was so intense that Abe resorted to dumping the APC in 2022 to contest the governorship election in Rivers on the platform of the SDP.
On his return to the APC, earlier in January, Abe disclosed in an interview with Channels Television’s Politics Today that he’ll be heading back to the APC.
“Politically, I am heading back for the APC,” he stated in part.
Recall also that Senator Abe, who was a known ally of President Bola Tinubu, ran for governorship in Rivers State in March of 2023 but lost to incumbent Governor Siminalayi Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
