Rumoured foreign military base in Nigeria untrue, says FG

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has categorically dismissed rumors suggesting that the Nigerian government was contemplating hosting a foreign military base within its borders.

in a statement released on Monday, Idris labeled such claims as unfounded and false.

Addressing the speculations, Idris clarified, “The Federal Government of Nigeria has not engaged in any discussions nor received proposals from any foreign country regarding the establishment of foreign military bases within our nation.”

He further emphasized that the government remains focused on bolstering existing foreign collaborations to address security challenges, aligning with the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The Nigerian government already enjoys foreign cooperation in tackling ongoing security challenges, and the President remains committed to deepening these partnerships, with the goal of achieving the national security objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

Urging the public to disregard the misinformation circulating the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in tackling security issues.
