Sanwo-Olu orders probe of fire incident at the Akere Spare Parts Market

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Wednesday ordered a probe into the fire which destroyed goods worth billions of naira at Akere Spare Parts Market in Ajegunle.

Governor Sanwo-Olu was at the market in Ajeromi Ifelodun Local Government to assess the extent of damage by the fire incident.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, quoted the governor as saying that he was shocked by the incident and commiserated with the traders over their loss.

He said: “Mr. Governor, on behalf of the government, genuinely shares their grief. He has ordered a probe into the fire, which emergency workers have put out.

“Besides, Mr Governor implores Lagosians to desist from attributing the unfortunate incident to any political party or its agents. Those who are struggling to make political gains from the incident are being mischievous.

“It is shameful to take advantage of the misfortune of others to feather some political nests. “

The spare parts market was razed in the early hours on Wednesday with one death reported.
