Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has lauded the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) for its efforts in creating over 200,000 jobs at the Lagos State Employment Summit 2024.

He stated this at a summit, themed “Job Creation, Uniting for Impact: Create, Collaborate, Change,” held in Lagos on Wednesday.

Speaking at the event, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that while the LSETF’s contributions are significant, they are insufficient to meet the state’s employment needs.

“There’s still a lot that we need to do,” he remarked, urging the Fund to enhance its efforts in job creation.

The governor highlighted the importance of understanding future work trends and acquiring relevant skills for both current and future job markets.

He further stressed the need for individuals to equip themselves with the right skills to seize emerging opportunities.

Sanwo-Olu praised the LSETF for its comprehensive approach, which includes training, support, and engagement to reduce unemployment.

He noted that the state government has also trained many individuals in various skills acquisition centers, providing them with startup funds.

At the event, which saw the launch of the Labour Market Information Management System, the governor called on the private sector and other stakeholders to collaborate with the government in addressing unemployment.

He emphasized that the annual employment conference provides a platform to review and analyze the Fund’s success stories.

In her remarks, Feyisayo Alayande, Acting Executive Secretary of LSETF, highlighted the summit’s role in bringing together various stakeholders to create employment opportunities in Lagos State.

She outlined LSETF’s pillars, including employability, access to capital, technology training through Lagos Innovate, and business support.

Alayande also urged collaboration and unity in job creation efforts, urging stakeholders to work together to make a significant impact in Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu in further remarks, reiterated the importance of partnerships and financial support from business owners, stressing the need for beneficiaries to repay financial aid to allow others to benefit.

He concluded by emphasizing the role of the Labour Market Information Management System as a platform for interaction between employers and job seekers, facilitating a more efficient labor market in Lagos.
