INEC declares Sanwo-Olu winner of 2023 Lagos guber election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday declared Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Lagos State.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, declared Sanwo-Olu winner of the election having satisfied the provisions of the electoral act and the constitution.

Sanwo-Olu won the election by a landslide, defeating Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who came second.

The Lagos State Governor polled 762,134 votes to beat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 312,329 votes.

Jide Adediran (Jandor) of the PDP came a distant third, polling 62,449 votes.

Sanwo-Olu only lost to the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour in Amuwo Odofin, a strong hold of the Igbo community in Lagos.

But the governor won in 19 of the 20 local governments, including Labour Party’s stronghold of Ajeromi Ifelodun, Ojo, Oshodi Isolo and Eti-Osa.

The governor got his biggest votes from Alimosho, polling 83,631 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 37,136 votes and Jide Adediran (Jandor) of the PDP, who got 7,872 votes to come third.

Sanwo-Olu also won big in Ikorodu where he polled 64,697 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour who got 13,207 votes and PDP’s Adediran, 3,797 votes.

He also got big votes in Mushin, where he garnered 52,249 votes to defeat LP’s candidate, who scored 11,759 and PDP’s candidate, who polled 4,006 votes.

Kosofe also delivered huge vote for Sanwo-Olu, where he polled 49,344 votes to beat Rhodes-Vivour, who got 26,123 votes and Adediran, who garnered 3,537 votes.

In Ajeromi Ifelodun, the governor polled 39,798 votes, as against 19,821 votes for LP and 2,607 for PDP.

Sanwo-Olu won his Local Government of Lagos Island by a landslide, polling 37,760 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 1,317 votes and Adediran of PDP, who garnered 1,783 votes.

He also defeated Rhodes-Vivour in his own Local Government of Ikeja, where he got 32,273 votes. Rhodes-Vivour got 15,174 votes to come second while Adediran scored 1,616 votes to come third.
Badagry, Sanwo-Olu polled 41,482 votes to emerge winner, while Rhodes-Vivour got 4,863 votes and Adediran, 5,472 votes.

Sanwo-Olu defeated Adediran in his Local Government of Ojo, where he polled 30,797 votes. Rhodes-Vivour came second with 19,027 votes while Adediran scored 3,889 votes.

In Surulere, the governor polled 42,451 votes to defeat LP’s candidate, who got 28,069 votes and Adediran, who scored 2,200 votes.

In Amuwo-Odofin, Sanwo-Olu polled 17,576 votes to lose to Rhodes-Vivour, who got 34,860 votes. Adediran scored 1,809 votes.

In Eti-Osa, Sanwo-Olu polled 25,963 votes to defeat Rhodes-Vivour, who scored 19,967 votes while Adediran garnered 1,468 votes.
