Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Lagos State Governor, Jubril Gawat, has proposed stricter laws against vandalism of government properties.

Gawat stated this on Monday via his official X handle, reacting to a post by Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, parading suspected vandals.

The force PRO had posted via his X handle on Monday, that at about 12:25am, patrol officers from Man Centre Division accosted one Oseni Yusuf, Richard Solomon, Emmanuel Ezeobi and Isaac Shedrach along Oba Akran Road.

He revealed that the trio were arrested while vandalizing armored cables installed by the state government for the Smart City Light Up Lagos Project.

Hundeyin added that investigations were ongoing with the case.

In his reaction, Gawat noted that Nigeria needed to implement tougher laws against vandalism of government assets in the country.

“A lot of these guys have caused a lot of issues for us on the Street Lights issue across the State.

“It was so bad that the Ministry in charge had to setup a security meeting with members of the media.

“We need to go very hard on them,” he stated.
