The Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions has announced the postponement of the public hearing on the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act Amendment Bills and the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) Act Amendment Bill.

The hearing was initially scheduled for Thursday, May 30, 2024.

A statement released by the Committee’s Clerk, Mrs. Tinuke G. Ogunrinde, revealed that the postponement is due to conflicting schedules and a clash with national events commemorating the first anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to the statement, as part of the May 29 anniversary celebrations, President Tinubu will be hosted by the National Assembly.

It further disclosed that key figures such as the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Olawale Edun, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, who were expected to present at the hearing, will be occupied with the President’s agenda, which includes commissioning various projects across the country.

“The public hearing of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions on the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (Amendment) Bills, initially scheduled for Thursday, May 30, 2024, has been postponed until further notice.

A new date and time for the public hearing will be communicated in due course,” it read.
