Senate spokesperson, Ajibola Basiru, has appealed to the President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, to prevail on the panel of judges sent to Osun to immediately resume for tribunal activities.

According to Basiru, the appeal for immediate resumption of the judges to attend to election petition issues was necessary because the law doesn’t give room for any form of extension.

Speaking in Osogbo on Wednesday, Basiru noted that application has been submitted before the tribunal’s registry but no panel of justice is on ground for hearing.

He said: “Applications has been submitted before the registry of tribunal in Osun, but no member of the panel of justice is on ground to hear the application. As we all know. an election petition is time bound, and no extension of time can be granted.

“So we want to urge and appeal to the President of the Court of Appeal to prevail on which ever panel of judges she has sent to Osun, to resume immediately so they can hear all pending applications, so that electoral justice will be done. “Today (Wednesday) is the 10th day after the result has been announced and we have 21days to fill election petition and by law an application expertise will be taken by one of the judges.

“Therefore we urge the President of the Court of Appeal, Monica Dongban-Mensem, to immediately ensure immediately resumption of tribunal activities by the panel of judges in Osun in the next 24 hours.”

It would be recalled that Basiru lost his re-election bid to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olubiyi Fadeyi, during the February 25th National Assembly election.
