NLC strike will not disrupt exams- WAEC

The West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has reassured schools in Nigeria that the recent strike actions declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) will not disrupt the upcoming WASSCE exams.

In a letter signed by Mrs. T.A.Y. Lawsou, Branch Controller, on behalf of the Head of the National Office, addressed to school principals, WAEC management acknowledged the indefinite strike, which began on Monday, June 3, 2024, but confirmed that the WASSCE for School Candidates 2024 will proceed as planned.

“We share the concerns of the unions and the generality of Nigerians.

“However, the WASSCE SC is being conducted across all member countries of WAEC, and Nigerian students should not be disadvantaged by missing the exam,” the letter stated.

WAEC further urged school principals, supervisors, parents, and the general public to make the necessary arrangements for candidates to take the exams as scheduled.

“Kindly be guided accordingly. Thanks and God bless,” the letter concluded.
