The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has invited 180 applicants for a makeup interview to fill vacancies in specific subject areas and 15 local government areas. These applicants had previously taken the commission’s computer-based test (CBT) but were not initially selected.
The interview is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 26, at the TESCOM headquarters in Ilorin. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the commission on Sunday.
“This is a makeup exercise affecting all local government areas except Ilorin West. Our analysis shows that some local governments have shortfalls in subjects such as Chemistry, English Language, Mathematics, Islamic Studies, Christian Studies, History, Physics, Geography, French, Yoruba, and Commerce.
“We need to screen additional applicants who meet the basic requirements from the CBT to fill these gaps. This process ensures a balance of merit, equity, and practicality for the overall benefit of the state,” the statement read.
TESCOM explained that those invited are being considered under special conditions to fill vacancies in their local government areas while maintaining due process and competence.
Some of these applicants scored between 45 and 59 in the CBT, below the initial 60 cut-off for the first round of interviews. Others scored 60 or above but were initially ineligible due to age limits (above 35) or third-class degrees in relevant subjects. The original requirement was a first or second-class degree.
The commission assured that the makeup interview aims to ensure fairness while maintaining the quality of teachers recruited into the system.
“For clarity, the distribution of the 180 invitees is as follows: Asa (4), Baruten (20), Edu (11), Ekiti (22), Ifelodun (3), Ilorin East (2), Ilorin South (16), Ilorin West (0), Irepodun (7), Isin (6), Kaiama (30), Moro (9), Offa (13), Oke Ero (20), Oyun (7), and Patigi (10),” the statement added.
