Tinubu to Wike: Ensure FCT development benefits APC in 2027

President Bola Tinubu on Sunday humorously cautioned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, against allowing his infrastructure development efforts in Abuja to politically benefit the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Tinubu made the remarks while hosting an FCT delegation, led by Wike, for the Eid-El-Fitr homage at the Presidential Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja.

Recalling a conversation with the FCT Minister, Tinubu said, “I remember the day Nyesom Wike came to me and said, ‘Please, take us out of this problem of TSA so I can do more work and achieve more.’ I asked him, ‘Will this help my party win elections in the FCT?’”

The President joked that if Wike’s efforts tilted political gains toward the PDP, he might lose his position. “I know where you are coming from—your party or my party. If this development swings too much in your favour, you might lose your job,” he recounted with a laugh.

Tinubu praised Wike’s leadership, emphasizing that the FCT has seen rapid infrastructure improvements since his appointment. “Things changed quickly—rural areas were opened up, abandoned projects revived, and the Vice President’s official residence, neglected for years, was finally completed. Health centres and schools are being rehabilitated, and facilities are being upgraded. Thank you, Wike,” the President said.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and a PDP member, currently serves in Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) administration, a move that has sparked political discussions.
