Two foreigners die in a well in Ogun

Two Republic of Benin citizens, Avade Clement and Achefon Edua are said to have perished while digging a well in the Laderin neighborhood of Abeokuta South Local Government Area in Ogun State.

In an interview on Thursday, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said the incident happened on Monday.

It was said that one Akinsaya Ganiyu had employed them to work on his well at his residence in the Laderin neighbourhood of Abeokuta during which they got stuck

Odutola added that Ganiyu rushed to the local Divisional Police Officer to report the event after realizing that those he had hired were stranded in the well.

According to the report, the DPO dispatched his men to the scene, saved the victims, and transported them to the state hospital in Ijaiye, where the attending physicians pronounced them dead.

Odutola said, “On 28/04/24 at about 2230hrs, one Ganiyu Akinsanya reported to the Divisional Police Officer that two labourers hired to work on his site were stuck in a well. Upon receiving the information, the DPO mobilised his men for a rescue mission and they were able to rescue the victims and rushed them to the State Hospital, Ijaiye.

“However, the doctor on duty confirmed them dead at the hospital. Due to the shortage of space at the State Hospital’s morgue, the bodies were taken to a private hospital’s morgue.”

She added that further investigations indicated the occurrence was a workplace mishap.
