Unity Cup 2025: Chelle set to test new talents

Super Eagles coach Eric Sekou Chelle has said he will use the upcoming FIFA international window to test new invitees and assess which players fit into his system, potentially earning a permanent spot on the team.
Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago are set to face off in the Unity Cup, scheduled to take place at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium in West London during the final days of May 2025.
Chelle stated, “We are looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup, as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us strengthen our squad ahead of the matches in September and October.”
Similarly, Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong believes the tournament will help the team strategize for the World Cup qualifiers.
“This is a great tournament for us to reunite and continue strategizing for the upcoming World Cup qualifying games,” he said.
The Super Eagles will return to action in an international friendly against Russia on June 6, before their World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa in September.
The tournament will kick off with the first semi-final on Tuesday, May 27, as Trinidad and Tobago take on Jamaica in their first-ever clash on UK soil. Nigeria will face four-time African champions Ghana in the second semi-final the following day.
All four teams will return to action on Saturday, May 31, for the grand finale. The losers of the semi-finals will contest the third-place match, which will be followed by the final to determine the Unity Cup 2025 champions.
