Violence disrupts Ondo APC Primary in Akure South, Okitipupa LGAs

On Saturday, there was violence between the supporters of opposing candidates in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for governor of Ondo State.

According to LEADERSHIP, there were incidents of violence at Stella Maris College in Ward 1, Okitipupa local government area, as well as in Wards 8, 10, and 11 in the state capital of Akure.

There were reports that one of the candidates’ supporters stormed the wards and interfered with the proceedings.

As violence broke out between the opposing factions in Okitipupa LGA, all accredited party members—who had assembled in huge numbers to take part in the direct primary election—reportedly fled the scene.

The source said, “I am one of the accredited voters. We were here waiting for the officials of the party to commence the voting process when one of the agents of an aspirant came to the ward, snatched the validation and accreditation papers and ran away.

“They chased him, but could not catch him. This caused the violence.”

He added that everyone left the area after the security guards at the wards failed to stop the mayhem.

Additionally, at Ijomu/Obanla ward 4 in Akure South LGA, one of the party’s members, Hon. Yinka Akosile, was attacked and matchetted by alleged political goons in Akure, the state capital.

Information surfaced that the victim was told to vacate the polling place before to being attacked by individuals who seemed to be political goons.

Additionally, some party members in Akure South LGA’s Wards 8, 10, and 11 had their garments torn and were physically assaulted by the thugs.
