Threat of attack in Lagos: Security on red alert, says Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Friday allayed the fears of the residents over report of an imminent attack by terrorists, telling them there was no reason to panic.

He said all security formations had been put on high alert to ensure public safety

Rising from a meeting with security agencies, Sanwo-Olu disclosed that members of the State Security Council had reviewed the situation across flashpoints in the State, directing improved vigilance to neutralise intending threats.

The governor addressed the press at the State House, Marina, after meeting with the Nigerian Police, the Navy, Army, Customs, Civil Defence, among others.

Sanwo-Olu said Lagosians should remain calm and go about their normal businesses.

“In the last couple of days or weeks, there have been a lot of social media news and information about the threat of impending attacks on Lagos. I’ve had on a daily basis security communication with my security operatives.

“I want to assure our citizens that we are on top of the matter. We felt there is a need to have this important extended security meeting.

“In the last three and a half hours, we discussed the current security situation in the State and we have reviewed where we are. We have our heads together and come up with a strategy that is assuring to our citizens. Our men are alive to their responsibilities and they are ready to ensure safety of lives and properties of our citizens is not compromised in any way. 

“All of the security agencies have been activated not to cause panic; they have been reassured of not only the support of the state government, they also have been encouraged to be vigilant in their statutory responsibilities.

“Our advice to our citizens is to be law abiding and go about their lawful duties and to say something if they see something. Security is the duty of all. They should utilise all the security communication that is available.

“We want to assure you we are not unaware of all the concerns that have gone round. The security operatives have given all the assurances to continue to make Lagos safe for all,” the governor assured.
