Wike attacks Atiku over PDP presidential ticket

The Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has attacked former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over a statement credited to him that he will always get Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential ticket.

The former VP who was the PDP presidential candidate in 2019 election told journalists in Abeokuta last week during a visit to former President Olusegun Obasanjo that he has never found it difficult to win PDP ticket.

Governor Wike took umbrage at the former Vice President and accussed him of taking the party’s delegates that will elect the presidential candidate for granted noting Atiku will be shocked on what will be the outcome of the party primary.

Wike who has also been accused of being domineering in the affairs of the party however assured whoever emerges of all the aspirants will enjoy the support of entire party to win the general election in February 2023.

In a press statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, Wike said: “I didn’t expect him frankly speaking to say that he will always take the ticket of the party. That is going too far and taking the delegates for granted.”

The Governor in the statement was quoted as saying he is committed to doing anything that will ensure PDP returns to power in 2023. He also enjoined PDP members to resist making divisive utterances.

He said: “People should watch, there will be a shock as far as PDP convention is concerned. People should watch what is going to happen. People like to underrate so many persons and it is not good in politics.”
