Withhold early judgment on Tinubu’s  administration, Okupe urges Nigerians

By Innocent Raphael

The former director-general of the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential campaign, Doyin Okupe  has called on Nigerians to refrain from hastily judging the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Friday, Okupe advised the public to resist the urge to criticize Tinubu’s government in the same manner as previous administrations.

Okupe emphasized that President Tinubu inherited a severely distressed economy, describing the circumstances as “abnormal.”

He stated, “You can never and should never judge this administration like you judged other administrations. Because this is an abnormal situation in which this administration came to life. After such a prostrate economy for eight years, the government and governance were abandoned. Things became so bad. That was the point at which this administration came in. People are forgetting.”

Highlighting Tinubu’s qualifications, Okupe asserted that he was the best candidate during the 2023 presidential election, surpassing both Peter Obi of the LP and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I will remember my tweet. On the 21st of March, 2022, I was an aspirant for the presidential election under the PDP. I said if Bola Tinubu wins the primary for APC, he would do well,” Okupe recalled.

“He has come to the government at a difficult time. This is a very bad time for anybody to come and administer this administration. Of all the people who ran for president in 2023, by the benefit of hindsight, Bola Tinubu is the best,” he added.

Okupe concluded by urging the nation to give Tinubu’s administration more time before forming judgments.

“I think if this country would give this gentleman some time, you cannot judge this administration just after one year in office,” he said.

Recall that Okupe resigned from the LP in January, citing “ideological grounds” for his departure.
