Wizkid shades Don Jazzy, resumes hostilities with Davido after three years

By Tosin Brown

Afrobeats superstar Ayodeji Balogun aka Wizkid stirred hornets nest on Monday, April 29, when he threw shades at Mavins music chief, Don Jazzy.

It all began when Ladipoe, a Mavins signee, gave an opinion over Wizkid’s controversial “hip hop is dead” statement.

“Nigerian rappers that survived ‘hip hop is dead’ watching Afrobeat artists go through their own,” Ladipoe wrote via X.

Wizkid’s attention was drawn to the comment by Ladipoe and reacting to Ladipoe, Wizkid threw a shade directly at Don Jazzy.

He wrote, “lol never chatting to anyone signed to an influencer. Next.”

The response infuriated several singers and X users, who detested the use of influencer to describe Don Jazzy’s achievement on the Nigerian music and entertainment scene.

And just as this went by, Davido and Wizkid resumed their hostilities when Davido took sides with Don Jazzy.

Wizkid called Don Jazzy an “influencer” while taunting Davido with a video of him on his knees, pleading and crying after a fan asked him to release new music.

Wizkid, who seemed unbothered, expressed his readiness to take on anyone who comes for him – celebrities or X users.

In a series of tweets from Davido and Wizkid, both Afrobeats stars dished as much as they can to one another while their fans had a feast jumping from one tweet to the other.

“When LIGHT comes darkness VANISHES!!! LETS GET ACTIVE!! Montego Bay we deyaaaaaaa. Dem no know ur gbedu again. I can’t wait till 20 years from now … enjoy ur time,” Davido wrote. “They were trying to distract us baby no mind them.”

In response, Wizkid wrote, “U know what..no point. delusional niggas pray for y’all.”

Davido responded with the tweet, “WE NOT DELUSIONAL YOU’RE A SICK MAN.”

Replying to Davido, Wizkid reshared a video of his colleague on his knees, crying and begging alongside an emoji of himself laughing.

In a follow-up post, Davido wrote: “That’s what I thought. Nothing to say! Exactly why I stopped wasting my clout and jeopardizing my millions of usd of endorsements on someone whose career was resurrected a few years ago just to die again. NEXT!”

Wizkid fired back at Davido who he referred to as “my boy”. He also argued that Davido cannot attain his level in the music industry.

“I got nun to say to u my boy! I can retire today and you still not on my level. You be influencer with a song writer . Wish u well,” Wizkid wrote.

Meanwhile, Davido had instituted that Wizkid was a woman beater. The now deleted tweet read, ‘woman beater,’ in response to Wizkid.
