Yoruba actor Murphy Afolabi dies at 49 after tragic fall

Tragedy has struck the Nigerian movie industry once again as Yoruba actor and filmmaker, Murphy Afolabi, has passed away.

The sad news was shared on social media by Seun Olaiya, the president of the Yoruba Movies Directors Guild.

According to Olaiya, Afolabi fell in his bathroom in Ikorodu, Lagos on Sunday, May 14, 2023.

The news comes less than 24 hours after the death of veteran actor Obinna Nwafor popularly known as Saint Obi.

Afolabi was a prolific actor who appeared in over 60 Yoruba movies during his career.

Born on May 5, 1974, he got his start in the movie industry in 2001 and quickly rose to fame with his talent and dedication to his craft.

Some of his notable film credits include ‘Ifa Olokun’, ‘Omowunmi’, ‘Jimi Bendel’, ‘Wasila Coded’, ‘Olokiki Oru’, and ‘Idera’.

The news of Afolabi’s untimely passing has been met with shock and sadness in the Nigerian movie industry, with many of his colleagues and fans taking to social media to pay their respects and offer condolences to his family.
