‘Your deputy is number one resource person’, Sanwo-Olu tells governors at induction programme

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasised the vital role of deputy governors as the primary resource persons for governors.

Sanwo-Olu made this known while speaking at the induction program for returning and incoming governors organized by the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF).

Speaking on effective governance and managing the process of governance, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the significance of recognizing the deputy governor as a valuable asset rather than a rival.

He urged the governors to prioritize their deputies and utilize their expertise in fulfilling their duties.

“The first member of your team is your deputy governor. It is a joint ticket, however they emerge. He has been with you through the campaign, and he is the first resource you should use.

“Some of us sitting here are deputy governors that will be sworn in as governors, so your deputy governor is good enough,” Sanwo-Olu said.

He also stressed the significance of emotional intelligence as a necessary requirement for leaders.

He emphasized the need for governors to manage their states effectively, even in the face of challenges such as building collapses and fire incidents.

“Building collapse, fire incidents, things will happen, but we must continue to manage the city without excuses.

“We asked for the job, let’s continue to do it. A lot will happen that you didn’t anticipate; you must continue to move on. That is what will make the difference,” he added.
