Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, officially closed the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship on Sunday in Abuja, after Zamalek of Egypt claimed their third consecutive title.
The final saw Zamalek defeat Egyptian rivals Al-Ahly 3-1 (29-27, 22-25, 25-20, 25-23) in a thrilling match. Kenya’s KPC secured third place by beating Tunisia’s Carthage in straight sets.
Senator Tinubu, the Grand Patron of the championship, praised the athletes’ dedication and lauded the Nigeria Customs Service for organizing a world-class tournament featuring 16 clubs from across Africa.
“To our champions, Zamalek Club, on behalf of Nigeria and the entire continent of Africa, I say congratulations. Your victory was earned through countless hours of practice, teamwork and perseverance,” she said.
She emphasized the event’s success as proof of Nigeria’s readiness to host major international sporting events and congratulated Zamalek for their hard-earned victory.
“This event has proven that Nigeria, and by extension Africa, can be a force in global volleyball,” she added.
