Recall that on June 13, 2024, the Supreme Court postponed deciding on the lawsuit by the Federal Government to guarantee complete autonomy for all 774 Local Governments nationwide.

This followed the adoption of the briefs presented by the 36 Governors through their various Attorney-Generals.

The states requested that the suit be dismissed.

They contended that Prince Lateef Fagbemi, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of the Federal Government, lacked the necessary standing to do so.
