One dies, 7 injured in Balogun market fire

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said one body was recovered while seven persons were injured in the fire that engulfed Balogun Market in Lagos on Tuesday.

The Lagos Territorial Coordinator (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, made this known on Tuesday.

Farinloye added that four persons were arrested for stealing valuables from shops in the market.

The Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, had earlier stated that the fire was under control.

Adeseye said that the fire started from the topmost floor of a five-storey building, adding that the cause of the inferno which started in the early hours of the day remained unknown.

Emergency responders at the scene of the incident included officials from NEMA, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Fire Service, and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
