Again, Reps extend resumption date

The House of Representatives has decided to delay its return to plenary sessions, pushing back the resumption date from April 23 to April 30. This marks the second postponement since the Easter and Sallah break.

Originally slated to reconvene on April 16, the lower house postponed its plenary session to April 23 due to ongoing renovations in the main chambers.

However, according to an internal memo from the Clerk to the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the latest adjustment aims to afford members more time for engaging in constituency outreach activities. This is intended to ensure robust participation and input from constituents in the ongoing constitution review process.

Akintunde Rotimi, Spokesman for the House, quoted the Clerk as attributing the extension to the decision made by the House Committee on Constitution Review to prolong the deadline for submitting memoranda to April 30, 2024.

“Additionally, the extended timeline will allow for more concerted preparation for the legislative summits on State Police, as well as the one on Tax Reforms, Revenue Enhancement, and Digital Transformation coming up in the next 2 weeks.

“All inconveniences arising from this rescheduling are regretted. In line with the Legislative Agenda of the 10th Assembly, the House remains committed to being accountable and providing timely communications to all stakeholders,” he stated.
