Dupe Onitiri’s Yoruba Republic declaration shocking – MKO Abiola’s son

Jamiu Abiola, one of the sons of the late MKO Abiola, has attacked Dupe Onitiri-Abiola, the late politician’s widow, whose group, broke into the Oyo State Government Secretariat on Saturday to declare the Democratic Republic of the Yoruba (DRY).

In an interview with Vanguard, Jamiu Abiola, who is the Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice-President, expressed disappointment that a woman connected to his father would proclaim the South-West geopolitical zone a Democratic Republic of Yoruba Nation, stating that her secessionist action went against everything MKO Abiola stood for.

Jamiu pointed out that Abiola was well known for his steadfast support of Nigeria’s unity.

He said, “I have never met her and I don’t think that she told members of the Abiola family because the family members I spoke to are furious about this. They are shocked. Our family patriarch, Chief Moshood Abiola, was well known for his strong belief in Nigeria’s unity and that was why it was easy for him to convince Nigerians from all regions to give him their votes.”
