Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has announced that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is expected to last eight years, with a price tag of N4 billion per kilometre.

The Minister disclosed this on Thursday, during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief show.

Stating that the construction of the Lagos-Calabar coastal road is projected to span eight years, he revealed that the projected cost was set at N4 billion per kilometre.

Umahi emphasized that the ambitious project, scheduled to coincide with President Bola Tinubu’s tenure, was made feasible through the present government’s prudence.

He defended the seemingly high cost per kilometre, citing similar projects with comparable expenses.

Despite acknowledging the provisional nature of the estimated cost, Umahi outlined plans to recoup investments through tolling. He projected an average of 50,000 vehicles per day, with toll charges estimated at an average of N3,000.

The minister assured the public of security measures at the proposed toll gates, as well as the provision of amenities such as restaurants, filling stations, and parking lots along the route.

He further disclosed the ministry’s plan to install CCTV surveillance for enhanced security throughout the coastal road.
