NAFDAC alerts on ban of luxury bar soap

The Nigerian Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted the public regarding the European Union’s (EU) decision to prohibit the sale of Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 mystic flower).

NAFDAC stated this in posts across their social media handles on Thursday, disclosing the EU had imposed the ban citing non-compliance with the Cosmetic Products Regulation due to the presence of Butyphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), a substance deemed harmful to the reproductive system and potentially hazardous to unborn children.

According to the statement, BMHCA has been discovered to also lead to skin sensitization.

While the product isn’t listed in NAFDAC’s database, importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers are urged to be cautious and attentive to prevent the importation, distribution, sale, and usage of Dex Luxury Bar Soap.

The agency also stated the product details as follows:
Product Name: Dex Luxury Bar Soap (No 6 Mystic Flower)
Product Brand: DEX
Country of Manufacture: Turkey
Model: 11.11.22
Barcode: 8694965531
Category: Cosmetics

NAFDAC further advised healthcare professionals and consumers to report any suspicion of adverse reactions or substandard and falsified regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office or call 0800-162-3322 or send an email to sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng.
