Ogun: Kidnappers fail to release abductee after payment of N5m ransom

By Kolawole Olayinka, Abeokuta

Matthew Oladokun, the husband of abducted businesswoman Risikat Oladokun, has expressed frustration over the failure of the kidnappers to release his wife in Ogun State after paying a ransom of N5m.

Risikat was abducted by armed gunmen at her residence in Awa Ijebu, Ijebu North local government area of Ogun state, on Tuesday, March 12, aftet she returned from work.

According to Matthew, the police have seemingly abandoned efforts to find his wife, while the abductors continue to demand additional ransom despite receiving the initial N5 million payment.

Speaking to our correspondent, Matthew disclosed that the abductors have cut off communication with his family, leaving them in the dark about his wife’s well-being.

“The abductors have collected more than N5 million from us as ransom to secure the release of my wife who was abducted over a month ago, and they are still demanding more money,” Matthew lamented.

Recounting the harrowing incident, Matthew described how armed assailants ambushed them as they arrived home, locking him and their children inside the house while they kidnapped his wife.

He explained that the family has been cooperating with the authorities, reporting the abduction to the police, but there has been little progress in the investigation.

Despite the case being transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit, Matthew expressed disappointment in the lack of concrete action taken by the police to ensure his wife’s safe return.

Matthew appealed to the state commissioner of police, Abiodun Alamutu, urging him to collaborate with other security agencies to expedite the release of his wife.

In response to inquiries, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, Omolola Odutola, admitted that the case was ongoing but cited a lack of updates from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

She assured that she would provide further information once there are developments in the kidnapping incident.
